Coronavirus Covid-19 Update - Good Neighbours

Published 18 March 2020

Hello Great Cheverellites!

What strange and crazy times we are living in!

I’m writing with an update on the arrangements that Cheverell Magna Parish Council (CMPC) – Voluntary Action Group (VAG) - are making with regards to organising volunteer activity.

To enable a more effective and efficient way of using volunteer time and support and not to overload any one person or a few individuals, CMPC last night decided that it would do the following to organise the volunteer effort:

• divide the Parish into ‘sectors’

• each sector will have a volunteer co-ordinator to organise volunteer activity in that sector and to take initial support calls from those in need. Currently these volunteer co-ordinators are members of the Parish Council

• each sector will have a number of additional volunteers to work with the sector co-ordinator to support the voluntary activity

• the volunteers will help those who have no other ways of getting help by doing essential shopping, collecting prescriptions and having phone chats with those who just want some contact with the outside world. They may be able to organise other essential help after discussion.

This support is offered purely on a ‘good neighbours’ volunteer basis. Things are changing rapidly in the UK and CMPC-VAG will regularly assess the volunteer offering to ensure compliance with government advice for the safety of all.

You will soon (if you haven’t already), have a little note put through your door about both the volunteer support and how you can access this and also asking for more volunteers. It’d be good to have as many volunteers as we can to ensure people are not overloaded and the support effort is spread between volunteers. If you can volunteer please either call the number on your note or contact me at Please let us have: your full name, address, and contacts (email, mobile and landline if you have one) so that we can add you to our list.

Many, many, many thanks to all those who have already offered help. Your offers are greatly appreciated. Your patience is appreciated at this particularly busy time. I will be getting back to you in due course!

Take care, look after yourselves and keep watching out for more information. CMPC Facebook Page will be the fastest method of communication with the Website probably being the second fastest. There will be some communications on the Noticeboard but the first 2 methods will be the fastest and have the most up to date information. ‘Letterbox’ communications are likely to be few and far between. We hope you understand.

All the best,
